Independent survey

Damp Surveys in Swansea & South Wales

An independent investigation into damp and moisture problems, with clear written findings. We don't install damp-proofing, so our only job is to work out what is likely to be causing the problem.

Common reasons people ask for a damp survey

  • Visible damp patches on walls or ceilings
  • Peeling paint, blown or salt-stained plaster
  • Persistent moisture that keeps returning
  • Musty smells or damp-feeling rooms
  • Suspected penetrating damp
  • Suspected rising damp
  • Condensation on windows and cold surfaces
  • Recurring mould
  • Moisture with no obvious explanation

Similar symptoms, different causes

A damp patch at the base of a wall can look the same whether it comes from condensation, a leaking pipe, high external ground levels, defective rendering or moisture from the ground. The right next step depends on the cause, which is why diagnosis matters before any work is considered.

Our survey looks at the pattern of moisture, the condition of the building and the circumstances around it, so that recommendations are based on evidence rather than assumption.

What the inspection involves

Depending on the property and the concern, the inspection may include a visual inspection inside and out, moisture measurements, humidity and dew-point assessment, and thermal imaging where appropriate. Not every technique is relevant to every survey.

The inspection covers accessible areas. Concealed or inaccessible areas cannot be confirmed without further investigation, and we'll say so clearly in the report.

Your written report

After the inspection you'll receive a professional written report explaining:

  • Observed findings
  • Likely causes
  • Relevant contributing factors
  • Recommended next steps

Inspections cover accessible areas and are non-invasive unless otherwise agreed. Concealed defects may not be identifiable without further investigation.
